PVC Greenhouse
A PVC greenhouse is one of the quickest and easiest ways
to enjoy plants long into the winter. They are made of cheap and readily
available materials that are easy to attach and assemble. PVC is strong
and lasts for a long time, but sun exposure does lessen this time so
these are better suited as a temporary set-up for weathering the winter.
A PVC greenhouse starts with a PVC frame. Inch and a half thick PVC
is good for most structures although larger pieces may be needed depending
on its size. Joints and connections will also be needed as well as a
hand saw to cut pieces to fit. Once the frame is constructed and firmly
attached plastic sheeting can be attached to complete the greenhouse.
It is that easy.
A PVC greenhouse is light and easy to move or take apart. This makes
them dangerous in strong winds and rough weather if they are not firmly
secured to the ground or wall. Gallon jugs of water make for great stabilization
and also act as a passive heater, heating up while the sun is out and
slowly releasing that heat during the night. This method has been shown
to work in winter temperatures below 15 degrees.
